Improved Boxed Macaroni and Cheese

Yes, this boxed side dish is cheap. It tastes cheap, too! With a few extra touches at minimal costs, you can have a great side dish.

  • 1 box macaroni and cheese
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/2 stick butter
  • 1/2 cup cubed Velveeta**
  • 5 tbs Tabasco sauce
  • Boil water. When water is boiling, add macaroni and boil for 8 minutes. Remove from heat and drain. Set macaroni aside in a collander.

In a pot, melt butter. Add Tabasco sauce and stir. Stir in powdered cheese mix until dissolved. Add milk and cheese while stirring until all cheese is melted. Turn down heat and add macaroni to cheese mixture and stir until all macaroni is coated. Cover and simmer for 2 minutes. Serve.

Basically, with this recipe you are only punching it up by adding extra cheese and some spice.

    Easy Cassarole

Follow above recipe, but include the following ingredients:

  • 1-10 oz can of tuna in water (or canned chicken or ham)
  • 1-12 oz can of mixed vegetables
  • 1-1/2 cup crushed potato chips (I prefer salt and vinegar chips for this, but you can use any flavor)
  • Before adding macaroni to cheese mix, stir in drained tuna and mixed vegetables then add macaroni and stir until everything is coated. Pour into a cassarole dish. Sprinkle top with pototo chips. Bake at 400 degrees for 10 minutes.
