Buttermilk Biscuits

These are light biscuits that are easy to make. By rolling and folding and repeating this method, you can create a layered biscuit. Use the rim of a glass if you don't have a biscuit cutter.

  • 1/3 cup butter
  • 2 cups self rising flour
  • 3/4 cup buttermilk
  • Preheat oven to 425 degrees.

Mix cool butter cutting it into the flour until mix is crumbly. Add buttermilk and mix gently until everything is moist. Knead dough on a floured surface 4-5 times and roll to 1/4 inch in height, fold and roll again to 1/4 inch, repeat 4 more times. [This action will create layered biscuits.] Using a biscuit cutter or the rim of a glass, cut biscuits and place on a lightly greased baking sheet.

Place biscuits in the oven for 12 minutes. Take out immediately and brush tops with melted butter.
